Project “Maison Dorée”

by Bérengère Durret

The project blends the charm of a period property with contemporary taste, including original doors and boiseries, custom-made solutions, distinctive furniture and warm, neutral tones.

In Lyon, a house combining elegance between history and the contemporary.

This French mansion, built in the 19th century, originally housed wine growers before becoming a weaving workshop. Today, the 160 square metres have been completely renovated to create a refined residence that has preserved traces of the past while harmoniously combining them with contemporary materials and style.

The goal of the renovation of “Maison Dorée” was to create an atmosphere as close as possible to that of the era in which the house was built. The first step was the elaboration of a new plan, achieved by “opening up” several small rooms to obtain spacious, cosy and bright volumes. Some details of the original period have been preserved, such as the wooden doors and wood panelling, restyled in colour tones. And wood is the preferred material of the project, with herringbone oak parquet flooring and different shades of walnut for the many custom-made joinery elements designed by the architecture studio. Warm and neutral tones, with some contrasting touches of colour in the contemporary furnishings, generate a relaxing, sophisticated and cosy atmosphere.

On a restored arched glass door finished in black, and on an full-white door, the Crisalide mini handle stands out in contrast with its white porcelain: an element with an original and composite design.
Meanwhile the Timeless handle was chosen, in the InBlack finish, for two other entrance doors, matching the retro-style dark metal elements.

Crisalide mini, designed by Elena Salmistraro, is a handle with a joyful look, characterized by rounded shapes and the combination of two materials of different nature, aluminum and white porcelain.
Timeless, designed by Marco Pisati, is an icon in the Dnd catalogue. The InBlack finish, chosen for this project, highlight its clean and essential lines.
